           Windermere School

Vincit qui se Vincit. One conquers, who conquers oneself.

Welcome to Windermere School in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Established in 1863, we are a boarding and day school for boys and girls from age 2 to 18. With access to a spectacular greater classroom, we can really live our school motto:

We believe Windermere School is unique and very special, with the right balance of academic emphasis, physical well-being and a commitment to serving society. We equip our students with the skills, values and qualifications that provide an enduring foundation for the future. We aspire to excellence in all things, and for our students to combine confidence and compassion. As a Round Square and IB World school we subscribe to a truly international curriculum. By the time our students leave Windermere School, we want them to know that with determination, they can overcome adversity and remain true to their purpose; they can be of value to society and help make the world a better place.

Windermere School was established originally in 1863 at the seaside town of Lytham in Lancashire. It then moved to nearby St Anne's-on-Sea, from which it took its name St Anne's High School for Girls. In 1924 the school moved to beautiful premises overlooking Windermere. In 1999 it was named Windermere St Anne's School, when it became co-educational. In 2010 the school changed its name to Windermere School to reflect its long standing association with the Lake District, which is recognised internationally. To honour 150 years of tradition, alumni continue to be known throughout the world as "Stannites".

At Windermere School we provide a safe and traditional environment for students to grow in confidence, excel academically and fully utilise our surroundings to develop their personalities and discover their strengths.

Our goal is to ensure that all our students realise their true potential. Small class sizes, highly-skilled staff dedicated to our educational ethos of  'learning by doing', and a full range of opportunities and facilities have all helped the school to maintain consistently high academic standards.
